The Story Retell Procedure (SRP) has been shown to be a valid and reliable instrument for the generation of connected language samples. The SRP is a carefully constructed and recorded set of stories, derived from the Discourse Comprehension Test by Robert H. Brookshire and Linda E. Nicholas (Communication Skill Builders. Tucson, AZ.;1993). In their clinical and research uses, the SRP stimuli are presented for immediate or delayed retelling, with or without picture support, and their reproductions are to be recorded for off-line linguistic analyses.

The 12 story recordings, with six pictures accompanying each story for optional support during the listening and/or retelling, along with the Information Unit (IU) check sheet used for efficient tabulation and analyses, are provided for inspection and download if desired. Additionally, several relevant publications about the SRP are provided for reading and downloading. Users are strongly encouraged to read these articles for proper test administration, scoring and interpretation. If the SRP is used and citation of the test itself is needed for publication or documentation purposes, citation of the McNeil, et al (2007) article is recommended (McNeil, M.R., Sung, J.E., Yang, D., Pratt, S.R., Fossett, T.R.D., Pavelko, S. & Doyle, P.J. Comparing connected language elicitation procedures in person with aphasia: Concurrent validation of the Story Retell Procedure. Aphasiology, 21, 775-790, 2007).
